|The Yavneh Bulldogs boys team from Dallas won their second straight Weiner Tournament title Saturday night, topping Heschel 56-39 before a packed crowd at Beth Tfiloh in Baltimore.
In the girls championship game, CHAT defeated HAFTR 54-22.
Yavneh (14-0) overcame a six point first half deficit to get within one at halftime on a late three-pointer by Griffin Levine.
The Bulldogs, ranked #9 in Jewish Hoops America, then dominated the second half, outscoring the #10 Heat 26-8.
Ofek Reef, who averaged just under 19 points per game during the tournament, paced the Bulldogs with 19 points and Levine added 17. The two shared Tournament MVP honors. Ilan Orgell, who matched Reef with 132 points in the tournament, led Heschel Saturday night with 17 points.
For Yavneh it was their second straight perfect 7-0 run through the tournament. Heschel (12-3) technically was seeking to defend its title as well. The Heat won the tournament three straight years from 2012-2014 but did not participate the past two years.
Yavneh's girls also had their best showing at the tournament, beating Beth Tfiloh in the 3rd Place game 26-12.
In the boys' 3rd Place game, Boyar High School of Jerusalem beat HAFTR 57-49.
