Jewish Hoops Season Opens in Brooklyn

Sure, a bunch of teams across the country haven’t started practice but the 2019-20 Jewish Hoops America season got underway Thursday night with opening round games at the Magen David Tournament.

HAFTR, Ramaz and Hillel punched their tickets to the quarterfinals with impressive wins over Flatbush, YDE and Rambam respectively.

In the quarters on Sunday, Oct. 6, HAFTR will face JEC, host Magen David will take on HANC, Ramaz will play Heschel and DRS will battle Hillel.

The semifinals are Monday night and the championship is next Thursday.

Here are the game summaries from the opening round:

Ramaz 56 YDE 42

Yoni Vilinsky scored 22 points and Spencer Rubinstein added 12 as the Rams won in Eli Katz’s debut as coach.

Hillel 58 Rambam 26

A 30-8 run from the start of the second quarter to midway through the third won it for the Heat. Joe Zekaria paced Hillel with 20 points and Morris Tobias had 16.

HAFTR 55 Flatbush 38

Jordan Appel scored 18 points and Matthew Jedwab added 15 for the Hawks.
