The CHAT Tigers girls and the Boyar Lions boys won the championship games Saturday night at the 34th annual Weiner Family Tournament, which was played this year for the first time since 2019 before Covid.
Both teams beat the Yavneh Dallas Bulldogs, 47-40 in the girls game and 51-43 in the boys game.
It was the first ever title for the boys team from Jerusalem, and they needed a rally from 12 points down in the 3rd quarter to make it happen. The girls from Toronto finished a perfect 7-0 to win the tournament for the fourth time in five years and deny the Yavneh girls their first ever title.
Carmel Baratz led CHAT with 16 points and tournament MVP Samara Glazer and Elle Ohayon each scored 10. Lilly Yalovsky scored 14 and Ally Oster added 10 for Yavneh. The Bulldogs went 5-2 in the tournament, their only losses coming to CHAT.
In the boys final, Yavneh led 36-24 in the 3rd before going cold, managing only two points in the fourth quarter. Tournament MVP Daniel Elimelech led Boyar (5-2) with 18 points, Eran Levints had 14 and Itay Zelbuch added 13. Yavneh had won its first six games in the tournament, including a 9-point win over Boyar in round-robin play. They were led in the final by Jacob Blank’s 13 points.
