Twelve boys teams will play this weekend in the 36th annual Scott Satran Memorial Tournament at HAFTR.
In addition to the host Hawks, the teams include the Berman H.A. Cougars and Mekor Chaim Cyclones from Maryland, Jewish Culture High School Lions of Miami, DRS Wildcats, Frisch Cougars, HANC Hurricanes, Hillel Heat, JEC Thunder, Magen David Warriors, North Shore H.A. Lions and Ramaz Rams.
The tournament honors the memory of Scott Satran, zāl, who died of cancer in 1987 at the age of 20. Scott was a 1984 graduate of HAFTR, where he was on the basketball and hockey teams.
After each team has played three preliminary games Thursday and Friday they will be seeded for the opening round Saturday night. Winners will go to Tier 1 and losers to Tier 2. Quarterfinals, semifinals and finals in each tier will be played on Sunday.
Scheduling tweaks led to some early preliminary games, with Frisch beating JEC last month and HAFTR beating HANC at the Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday.
