The host Shalhevet Firehawks boys and girls teams reached the finals of the 7th annual Steve Glouberman z’l Tournament in Los Angeles this weekend but only one managed to come away with the title.
The top-seeded girls wrapped up a 4-0 tournament with a 67-53 over #3 Berman Hebrew Academy. Shalhevet had also beaten the Cougars in the preliminary round.
In the boys tourney, the TABC Storm used a dominant start-to-finish performamnce on both sides of the ball to knock off the Firehawks 75-51 and complete a 5-0 weekend. Yis Kaminetzky stood out in a balanced attack and was named MVP.
The boys All Tournament Team included Alex Zakheim of Frisch; Julius Rubinstein of Ramaz; Avi Halpert of Shalhevet; and Shmuel Yablock and Netanel Benloulou of TABC.
Talia Tizabi of Shalhevet won the MVP. The girls All Tournament Team was Eva Rothchild of Frisch; Tali Cohen and Jenny Kagan of Berman HA; and Yalee Schwartz and Ariella Grossman of Shalhevet.
